This exceptionally vibrant turquoise sea glass necklace features a striking piece of sea glass found by the maker on the shores of Seaham Hall Beach, on the North East coast of England — a coastline internationally known for its historic sea glass and glassmaking heritage.
During the late Victorian period and early 20th century, Seaham was home to major glassworks. Surplus and discarded glass entered the North Sea, where decades of wave action gradually transformed sharp fragments into smooth, sea-frosted forms. After more than 100 years of natural tumbling, only a small fraction of these pieces survive with the clarity and strength required for jewellery.
What sets this piece apart is the exceptional brightness of its turquoise colour. While turquoise sea glass does occur along the Seaham coastline, pieces with this level of colour saturation and luminosity are rarely found. Many turquoise fragments dull or fade over time; this piece has retained a vivid, almost glowing tone — a result of its original glass composition combined with long, even exposure to the sea.
This particular piece was personally discovered on the beach, then intentionally selected to be made into jewellery for its vivid colour, smooth surface, and naturally balanced shape. The fine, sea-frosted texture softens the brightness just enough, giving the glass depth and character without muting its striking hue. No two pieces display this exact tone, and this level of brightness is seldom repeated.
The sea glass is paired with a solid stainless steel paperclip chain measuring approximately 18 inches, finished with a lobster clasp for a secure and comfortable fit. The clean, contemporary chain allows the colour of the glass to remain the clear focal point.
